If you like unique experiences you will love this! If you are looking for luxury this is not the place for you! Please remember that this is meant to be a rustic experience-a step above camping-which means you might see a ladybug in the tiny house or a leaf might make its way in through a crack. If that freaks you out this might not be the place for you :) I personally think that it adds to the character :)
The main driveway where you will park is well lit. The driveway is huge, so feel free to bring a boat or kayak(s). There is a boat launch less than a 3 min drive away. There is also a public beach with grills and picnic tables near the boat launch. The lake is less than a 5 minute walk away, and the public beach and launch are less than a 5 min drive. Bike, Fish, kayak, boat, swim, hike, grill out at the public park, sunbathe! If you don’t have a kayak I have a one person sit on top kayak (fits me and my dog) that you can borrow and a 2 person inflatable kayak (arrives April 10) just let me know ahead of time and I will leave it or them for you! It’s so much fun to kayak out to the little islands! The kayaks are first come first serve and are shared with guests of Camp Moonshine, so please let me know if you want me to reserve for you!
Although close to the lake and in a country-ish setting, the Bluebird Whiskey Barrel is also conveniently close to many stores (Publix, Kroger, Target, Sprouts, Walmart, etc) gas stations, a movie theater and eateries. Try Gasthaus Tirol right up the road for delicious German food and beers and a cute outdoor patio. Check out my guidebook for more restaurant recommendations. The freeway (400) is about a 5 min drive so this place is very convenient to getting around, the only downside is you do get some freeway noise especially during rush hour. Its not overwhelming but you do hear it. Usually the morning chorus of birds and evening chorus of frogs and crickets overpower it!
If you’re looking for an affordable, unique place to stay that feels a little country, yet is close to it all, and feels like camping, but with some cozy extras, this is it.
Pets and children welcome. Not suitable for infants/babies. Please keep any dogs leashed and let me know if you are bringing any since I have my own. Please watch children as the tiny house is rustic and therefore not exactly “child proof.”
Please remember there is no kitchen; sink, oven, microwave, refrigerator or running water. I do provide a cooler, just bring ice! I also provide a toaster oven. Or cook over the fire pit! I also provide a coffee machine with coffee, creamer and sugar. Uber eats delivers here and there are a lot of restaurants and grocery stores nearby.
There is a portable camp toliet in a privacy tent in the yard for guests of the tiny house to use. I provide bags, after you do your business please tie up the bag and throw it in the trash can provided.) At the end of your stay please throw the trash bag in the large trash can near the driveway.
Sit around the fire pit and have a beer! Take your dog for a walk in the wooded back yard or down to the lake. Relax in the hammock. Paint or color a picture with the art supplies provided: easel, canvases, coloring books, paints, colored pencils, charcoal and chalk. (Kids are welcome to use the sidewalk chalk on my driveway!) Read a magazine or book or Play a board or card game (provided). You are likely to see bluebirds, hummingbirds, robins, cardinals, crows, hawks, woodpeckers, nuthatches, chipmunks, squirrels, frogs and deer! Take the boat or kayak out on lake Lanier. There are lots of nice hiking places close by! Check out my guidebook for specifics!
Try one of the local breweries or wineries or take a trip a little farther north to visit the cute town of Dahlonega and the Georgia wine trail and more hiking options! In stormy weather the Bluebird Whiskey Barrel feels so cozy listening to the rain on the tin roof!
Guests of the Bluebird Whiskey Barrel will have a personal fire pit, camp toliet, and hammock. The cornhole station is shared with guests of Camp Moonshine. I respect my guests’ privacy but am always available if needed!
The Bluebird Whiskey Barrel is ideal for solo travelers, fur babies, couples and small families (3 people max) If you do want to bring a larger family or more people you may want to also book my other listing, Camp Moonshine. Both listings have separate fire pits, camp toliets and hammocks for guests’ privacy.
I hope you enjoy your stay!
I live on a quiet street, my neighbors are not close on any side of me. Drive less than 5 min past the house and it dead ends at a public beach and boat launch.
There isn’t a ton of traffic but you will hear trucks pulling boats to the launch and also some freeway traffic is audible (especially at rush hour times) but not overwhelming. The sounds of the many birds often overpower it!
Drive the opposite way of the beach, 5 mins and you will reach the freeway (400), restaurants (Tirol Gastahus-awesome German food, Panera bread, chic fila, bbq, Korean bbq, Asian food, the Ridge-Steaks and Seafood, Outback Steakhouse, Cheeseburger Bobby’s, Tacos & Tequilas, Johnny’s Pizza, Mexican, Cuban, Steak n Shake, etc) grocery stores (Publix, target, Walmart, Sprouts, etc), gas stations, a movie theater, and Starbucks.
