1972 School Bus named “Franny.” Considered “upscale” primitive camping because no tent required. PET FRIENDLY! Tin Valley Retro Rentals was featured on Nat Geo’s documentary show “Badlands, Texas, and has caught the attention of travelers all over the world. 90 private acres nestled in the foothills of surrounding mountains. Perfect for stargazing! Located near Big Bend National & State Park and the Rio Grande. Families, solo travelers, couples, photographers, weddings, are all welcomed!
"Franny" is a “home-grown” girl of Terlingua. Special because she has housed many river guides of the Rio Grande for over 20 years. With her hip charming interior & her “one-of-a-kind” painted exterior, you can't help but feel ready for your new adventure. She is considered “upscale primitive” because she has enough solar energy to power a telephone and/or fan, and also has a propane heater for the cold months. As long as your fur baby isn’t aggressive & doesn’t eat kitties, WE LOVE having pets! Both the Big Bend National Park & the State Park provide the largest protected area of Chihuahuan desert topography & ecology also giving a stunning sunrise, sunset & magnitude of stars with Milky Way directly above. Also, feel free to check out our other 11 campsites, from “glamping” Airstreams, to a Land Yacht, & even a VW bug. The following is provided at your campsite: 1. Full & single cot. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BEDDING/LINENS. 2. Small fan. 3. Propane heater. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR 20 lb. PROPANE CANISTER. 4. Wifi available on property. 5. Solar energy for temporary light source and/or charging of your phone, computer, etc... If it is rainy or cloudy it will not work so bring your own flash lights/light source. PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT use heating electric appliances. Solar panel does not have enough energy. 6. Small BBQ grill, fire pit, & picnic table at campsite. (bring plenty of wood with you!) 7. Port-o-Potty within walking distance. 8. Outdoor shower (no hot water) & sink within walking distance. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN TOILETRIES. 9. Shower/bath house, laundry facility, swimming pool - 4 miles away This campsite is self check-in/self check-out. No key required. In order to keep rates down your help is needed. PLEASE leave your campsite as clean or cleaner than when you arrived. A broom and rake are provided. There is a trash can at your site and a large trash bin on property. Please assist in keeping everyone's vacation experience the best it can be by cleaning up. Thank you! *No running water at this campsite.

Casita Blanca is centrally located. It is 1.4 miles to Big Bend National Park, across the street from The Cottonwood Grocery and 6.5 miles from the ghost town. There are stunning views of Santa Elena's canyon ridge and Mexico to the West. The front porch is perfect for watching the sun set and rise. The back patio is a great place to grill out and relax. Recently remodeled this 70's house offers many amenities including a flush toilet, grid electricity, city water, a full kitchen and a shower.
This house is a part of Terlingua history. There have been recent major upgrades throughout the house however the majority of the construction on this house took place in the 70's. We hope you enjoy the original decor theme and the history this home has to offer.
The Cottonwood grocery store is just across the road and offers just about anything you may need. The only gas station in town is just one mile North on 118 from us. You may enjoy dining out at one of our great restaurants or bars located just a few miles west into the ghost town. Interested in going on a guided horseback ride with a cowboy/girl? Big Bend Stable is a mile north of us on highway 118.
  • Perfekt sted å bo i Terlingua.

I Austin, Texas.

Ville definitivt vurdere en tur / retur her.

This centrally located tiny house in Big Bend is on 16 acres of private land and is equipped with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The front porch is great for enjoying the quiet mornings as the sun rises over The Christmas Mountains. It’s also great for kicking back and relaxing at the end of the day as the sun sets and the milky way rises in one of the darkest places in The United States. The entrance to Big Bend National Park is roughly a ten minute drive south of this house.
This home is a great year-round place to use as home base while exploring Big Bend. Its equipped with two AC and heat units, a full kitchen stocked with all the basics, hot water and a full bath. It offers the best of both worlds with plenty of open space and privacy while only being a minute’s drive to a major roadway. The Ghosttown and entrance to Big Bend National Park are less then 10 minutes away.
Feel free to explore and enjoy the yard but please respect all property lines.

Primitive campsites, fire pits & views you want to see. Quiet & remote, yet only a mile from town amenities-gas, grocery store, LP refill & exchange, bank, coin showers behind Big Bend Resorts motel, water fill station, Jeep tours, laundromat & restaurants. The lively town of Terlingua, 5 miles. Big Bend NP, 5 miles. Big Bend Ranch SP, 20 miles. High clearance vehicles required for campsites 4 & 5. Small off-road campers are ok. No RV's, sorry. The outhouse is nice, way better than you imagine!
The pin on the map is close to the campground. You will get the directions once payment is received. Price is $15 per person (free for children 5 yrs old and under) & 1 tent per night for a primitive camp site with fire pit. Site 1 can accommodate 1 vehicle only, 1 (10x10ish) tent only in the designated tent area (within the rock border) Do not set up your tent outside the designated area!! Only park in the designated parking spot for your site. If you plan to bring a bigger tent contact me to check availability of a larger site. Please pay for all guests you are bringing. *If you bring unregistered guests you will have to leave the property. Composting toilet/outhouse available at site 4. There are public restrooms/coin showers one mile away at the back of Big Bend Resorts motel. The Cottonwood store has a good selection of groceries/camp supplies and you can fill water jugs there. There's 20 acres to explore, but do not take my plants or rocks! The back property line is behind sites 1 and 2 and continues behind the cabin. Please don't trespass, my neighbor will call the cops. No joke. She is not forgiving about this. If you bring children, be sure they understand not to cross that line! Off Road /high clearance camper trailers are welcome. Low clearance campers/trailers can not access the campground. Seriously, don't try it. Bring your own camping supplies and firewood. Collecting dead or live wood on the property is not allowed (Plants, alive and dead hold the desert floor in place and prevent erosion) The store at Study-Butte a mile away sells firewood (if not sold out) as well as The Cottonwood Grocery store a few miles away. Stop at the Walmart in Fort Stockton on your way down to get firewood, or find some in Alpine. Secure your tent and gear! You can not rely on the forecast to predict the winds that can come up in the desert out of nowhere. Never leave your gear, or chairs around the fire pit when you leave or go to bed. I expect campers to respect my property and leave as good or better than you found it. Please practice Leave No Trace, Tread Lightly, pack it in pack it out principals. If you don't know what that means, look it up before you arrive. The desert and my property are pristine, please do your part to keep it that way. Thank you in advance. Note: if you leave cigarette butts on the ground or trash behind, I will leave you a bad review and you won't be allowed back. I have no time or patience for bad behavior. Do not have campfires in windy conditions. Use common sense. Keep an eye on the forecast and realize that rain to the north can cause the dry creeks on my property to flash flood and you may not be able to leave till it recedes, which is usually pretty quick. This is the desert so it doesn't rain much or often. The rainy season is during the summer months when not many people are camping anyway. ALWAYS stay aware of the weather just in case.
The view of the Chisos mountains is about the best around. Front and center is Emory Peak, the highest point in the national park at 7800 ft. To the left of that is Casa Grande and to the right is the South Rim. Good hiking at Indian Head is less than a mile past my place and boasts great views, interesting rock formations, native American pictographs, etc. Trail is suitable for hiking, horses and mountain bikes.

Please be so kind as to read the entire description to answer any questions you may have. Black Moon hosts 2 guests and no children or pets, no exception :) All 10 acres of the property are for your private enjoyment. The Airstream Argosy was entirely remodeled and rebuilt as a desert retreat. It has solar power, as well as solar and battery operated lights, inside and out on the property. Fire pit and outdoor kitchen, breathtaking views of the surroundings and stunning sunrises and sunsets straight from your bed, and magical stargazing! Soft linens are provided for the bed as well as pillows, throws and comforter, so that you can travel light :) The bed is a super comfy gel memory foam Queen size mattress with big fluffy pillows. To enjoy a night of cooking under the Milky Way, all you have to do is bring your own charcoal or fire wood! Black Moon has plates, forks and knives, and fire cooking utensils. You can either enjoy grilling on the fire (a cooking griddle is provided), or you can use the BBQ! To preserve water which is so precious to us out here in the desert, we built a composting toilet which sits along a lovely desert walkway with grandiose yuccas and various cactii. The bathroom is shared with our other adjacent property’s guests when rented. Please note, there is no shower facility on site, but if you drive up to the Ranch headquarters, you have free access to full bathrooms and to the pool during open season. The last 3 miles of that drive are on an unpaved road and the showers are usually open 24/7.
The Ranch HQ is about 10 miles away, with the famous Bad Rabbit Cafe, Swimming Pool, Full Bathrooms and Laundry Room. The Ghost Town and Study Butte are a short drive away heading South (about 20 miles) as is the entrance of Big Bend National Park (about 25 miles).

Check us out on Instagram: @BigBendGlamping NOT INCLUDED AS PART OF YOUR STAY: - Bed linens. You’ll need to bring your own pillows, blankets, sheets, etc. This is a remote campsite and this allows me to keep costs low. It always gets cooler than you’d expect overnight in the desert, so make sure you bring enough to stay warm. - Food and water. Make sure you bring tons of water and are drinking it constantly!! This is a harsh climate out here, but if you stay hydrated you’ll be fine. I’ll always have extra water if you run out, but please plan accordingly. I recommend going to Porter’s (grocery store) in Alpine on your way in and loading up there. - Power in your trailer. The only outlets available are in the community Lajitas Library trailer. - Full showers. I will always have large water containers on shelves over by the Porta potty, which are encouraged to be used for brushing teeth, washing face, cleaning up, taking bootleg mini-showers, etc. There are also great showers at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge just up the road which all “Big Bend Glamping” guests can utilize if you want the real thing.
Big Bend Country has a distinct feel to it. It’s a special part of our nation. The land is rugged and beautiful. The distances are great. The people are rebels and wanderers and independent thinkers. There are no chains or corporations out here. It’s the American frontier. If you haven’t experienced it, you might not even realize places like this still exist. And that’s why it’s great. Check us out on Instagram: @BigBendGlamping ****** “Big Bend Glamping” is situated in a mountain valley within Terlingua Ranch, which covers hundreds of thousands of acres just north of Terlingua, TX and bordering both Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. The property is surrounded by mountains and offers a unique desert landscape not seen in many areas of the country. “Big Bend Glamping” guests receive access to the Terlingua Ranch Lodge amenities, which includes a full service bathroom with nice showers, a pool that sits at the base of a mountain peak (pay $5 at front desk), washer/dryer and a great restaurant (Bad Rabbit Cafe). The Little Burro Country Store is on the side of Highway 118 just a couple miles before your turn onto Terlingua Ranch Road and has beer, ice, WiFi, gas station type food, etc. RECOMMENDATIONS IN TERLINGUA: - Get breakfast and a cup of coffee at La Posada Milagro in Terlingua. It’s possibly the most relaxing place in the world. - Get dinner at La Kiva. Awesome restaurant on Terlingua Creek sort of built into the ground like a cave. - Have drinks on the porch at the Starlight Theater. - Do the walking Terlingua Ghost Town tour. Pamphlets can be found in the Terlingua Trading Company next to the Starlight Theater. - Visit some of the numerous art galleries in the area. Earth and Fire Art Gallery has some incredible stuff. RECOMMENDATIONS IN BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK AND BIG BEND RANCH STATE PARK: - Santa Elena Canyon has 1,500 foot sheer walls carved out over thousands of years by the Rio Grande. You can drive right up to the mouth of the canyon and then do a short walk into it. - Emory Peak is the highest peak in Big Bend NP and second highest in Texas. It’s a challenging hike with a little rock scramble at the end. It’s my favorite hike in Big Bend though with incredible views the entire way. Access through the Chisos Basin Visitors Center. - Lost Mine Trail is another high peak with huge views, but it’s a little shorter and easier hike than Emory. - The Hot Springs in Big Bend are a natural 105 degree spring on the edge of the Rio Grande in the eastern portion of Big Bend NP near the Rio Grande Village Visitor Center. It says you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle, but I’ve seen numerous cars drive in and out. Not saying you should do it but just passing along what I’ve seen... you can also park in a rock lot at that 4 wheel drive sign and just walk on the road down to the Hot Springs if you don’t want to test your vehicle’s abilities. - Drive a portion of the scenic Highway 170 through Big Bend Ranch State Park between Lajitas and Presido. This beautiful drive follows the Rio Grande and is a bit like riding a roller coaster. There are some incredible overlooks you can get out and take pictures too.

Glamping off-grid, Eco-friendly cabin. Close to everything! 5 miles to Big Bend National park. Stunning desert views of the Chisos mountains! Porch with living/ kitchen/dining area. This is a private remote sanctuary, yet only a mile or so from restaurants, grocery store, bank & gas. Newly built rustic cabin is solar powered w/ hot water in the shower, dorm size fridge w/ac/heat. Enjoy morning coffee or afternoon shade in the double swing, amazing sunrises, sunsets & those famous starry nights!
Curious about off grid living? The cabin is not connected to any city utilities, therefore, we don't experience the quite common water outages and power outages that those on the the grid here do, which often happens during peak times such as holidays. Water is limited to 300 gallons (Plenty, but please be mindful of your use. That's the whole idea!) We haul more in if needed (about a 2.5 hour chore. So far, no one has run out of water during their stay, so if you do please be patient as we get this done for you). The shower is heated by an on demand propane hot water heater. In the summer the water storage tank warms up nicely and you don't even need the "hot" water in the shower. The electricity is provided by the sun. Due to limited power, there are no plugs for coffee makers or blow dryers, etc. You can use the provided tea kettle on the stove to heat water to make French press coffee (French Press provided). There's plenty of lighting in the cabin, bath house/outhouse and the porch. There is a 4 outlet electronic device charging station for cell phones in the cabin. There is AC and heat inside the cabin and a dorm size fridge on the porch in the kitchen. You may want to bring an ice chest for extra cold storage for food or drinks. The composting toilet is clean, odor free. Water conservation is vital in the desert, as it should be everywhere. So far, all my guests have felt very comfortable and found the off grid functions to be an easy adjustment, educational and had no issues. *Basic pots and pans, cooking utensils, plates, silverware, plastic drinking cups, cork screw, can opener and ceramic coffee mugs are provided. This is not a gourmet kitchen!
Private and remote, yet close to everything! The view of the Chisos Mountains will not disappoint here. Big Bend National Park is only 5 miles away. Big Bend Ranch State Park is 20 miles away. The Cottonwood Grocery store, gas, bank, post office and restaurants are just a mile or so away. The lively town of Terlingua is just five miles away. Mel's Place is quiet and safe with excellent dark sky nights for star photography.

This is a harsh climate out here, but if you stay hydrated you’ll be fine. I’ll always have extra water if you run out, but please plan accordingly. I recommend going to Porter’s (grocery store) in Alpine on your way in and loading up there. - Power in the tipi. The only outlets available are in the community Lajitas Library trailer. - Full showers.

We're very lucky to live surrounded by nature, but please remember that the Big Bend is home to lots of wildlife. This off-grid house is in a quiet neighborhood on Terlingua Ranch and is perfect for folks looking to be off the beaten path while still having access to many creature comforts. This house offers a fully stocked kitchen, stove, fridge, a full bath, heat, solar power, hot water, and incredible views. The home has a queen bed and a twin fold out futon sofa. The house is located approximately 35 minutes from the entrance to Big Bend National Park and the Terlingua Ghosttown via a gorgeous drive.
The kitchen is fully stocked. There is a 6 burner propane stove that we provide the propane for, a full oven, sink, freezer/fridge, dishes, pots & pans, utensils, paper towels, soap, salt and pepper and coffee are all provided. The dining room has a bar height table perfect for meals or a workspace. This space has a lot of natural light, WiFi, and a great view of the outdoors. Whether you spend your time hiking one of the many trails the national or state park have to offer, take an amazing river trip with a local guiding companies or spend your day just kick back doing nothing at all, know that thanks to the on demand hot water heater – there is a hot shower waiting for you with your name on it 🙂. The bathrooms' pocket doors are lockable to give each guest their privacy while in the bathroom – toilet, shower, sink and vanity. The large living room has a sleeper sofa, cushioned bench and chair - plenty of seating to gather around to play a game of cards, watch a movie on your laptop or just hang out to chat while enjoying the views of the North Corazone and Christmas Mountains. The 30,000 BTU heater located in the living room will keeps the house warm, even on the coldest of days. Take in an amazing sunrise or sunset (or both) and listen to the coyotes calling to each other from the covered front porch or outside sitting area. Relax around the fire pit to star gaze and view the milky way (almost every night of the year) in our dark sky community. If photography is your thing, or not, change your prospective! Feel free to get a different view of the surround area with a short hike to the top of the peaks. El Camino Casita is the only home on the 20 acre track - so you have some room to move around and explore 🙂 I would love everyone to enjoy their stay at El Camino Casita, but in reality it's not going to be for everybody. Let me explain. This is an off-grid home which relies on a solar system to provide its power needs; the heater, stove and hot water heater are gas powered. Anything that produces heat (a hair dryer, instant coffee makers, toaster, microwave and so on) use A LOT of power to operate. Everything in life has a work around! We'll leave you instructions how to make coffee using the tea kettle; want to reheat your left overs – put them in a pan and put it on the stove for a few minutes; make toast using the griddle; instead of using a hairdryer – this is a very arid area, your hair will actually dry on its own fairly quickly. If you can't live without the mentioned appliances (which we don't judge if you do) – this is really not the place for you to stay. Know ahead of time if you do bring such appliances and use them while staying, don't be surprised when you don't have enough power to charge your laptop or phones, keep the lights on or worse the fridge doesn't have enough power to run and all your food spoils – because that is what will happen.
El Camino Casita is located down a dirt road on Terlingua Ranch. This neighborhood is rural and has very few neighbors in sight. El Camino Casita is about a 35- 45 minute drive to Study Butte/Terlingua. We suggest you fuel up your vehicle before you head south from Alpine – just to be on the safe side because the closest gas station is in Study Butte (about 30 miles away). I know that 30 miles might sound far but it is mostly highway and has some absolutely beautiful views during the drive. There is no cell signal in this area and you’ll need to print or screen shot the driving directions to the house since google maps does not yet have this property registered.

All that you need to enjoy grilling on the fire (a cooking griddle is also provided). To preserve water which is so precious to us out here in the desert, we built a composting toilet which sits along a lovely desert walkway with grandiose yuccas and various cactii. Driving up to the Ranch headquarters, you have free access to full bathrooms and to the pool during open season.

Most of the space is outdoor so dust kinda can't be helped. Common area's are the outdoor bar/kitchen, toilet & shower, bbq & campfire. Please don't put bottle & cans in the campfire, there is a trash for that. We don't have many trees so bring some firewood. Please respect others privacy.
The Little Dipper has 1 queen bed with dresser & table. There is an outdoor toilet & shower as well as an outdoor kitchen/bar . There are small trails on the property and a few campfire spots.

Crystal Mountain One was custom built in 2019. Relax inside or outside and enjoy the mountain views. Built to accommodate four guests in comfort and style. Rent one home or two. The listing is for one home. If you have a larger group, consider booking Crystal Mountain Two, that listing is for this same house PLUS another home next door. The second home is for overflow only and never rents out separately. You will never have to share your space or the 65 acres with anyone other than your own group. Crystal Mountain One on Terlingua Ranch is the ideal home base for your visit to the Big Bend Region. Modern design will set the perfect tone for your Big Bend adventure. The surprising seclusion will provide ample privacy and solitude. Relax inside or outside. Lots of space, large windows, covered decks, a large stone patio, and 65 private acres provide lots of options on where to hang out. At night watch meteors fall and satellites fly overhead as you marvel at the Milky Way. Relax around the campfire with a refreshing beverage, maybe even a sausage on a stick, or better yet, some s’mores. Whatever you eat and drink around the fire ring, will go well with campfire stories, some songs, or whatever else you want to do. It’s just you and your partner, or family and friends, under a starry Texas sky. During the day, head into to park, down to Terlingua, or to the Rio Grande, or just enjoy the home and the secluded 65 acres of Chihuahuan Desert habitat. At the property, relax inside or outside or go for a hike around the rugged and scenic property. Wildlife and diverse desert plant life and abundant and varied. The living room and kitchen are open concept with lots of space and amazing views through large picture windows. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, cookware, utensils, a large fridge, glass top stove and oven, dishwasher, and all the basics you would expect in a large kitchen. The bedrooms have king bed in the master and a queen bed in the second bedroom. The bathroom is spacious and stylish with two sinks and a large shower. Terlingua Ranch Lodge, just ten minutes away has a great pool plus the Bad Rabbit Café for great food, cold drinks, and frequent live music. The lodge office is also the place to register if you want to explore the Christmas Mountain conservation area. Terlingua and the western entrance to Big Bend National Park is a short 35-minute drive away. Adventure outfitters located in Terlingua offer river trips, horseback riding, jeep tours, ATV adventures, Jeep rentals, guided hikes, and mountain bike rentals. The famous Terlingua Ghost Town is just 40 minutes away. Both the Ghost Town and the Terlingua/Study Butte area offer shopping, dining, drinking, live music, art galleries, and more. Heading another 15 minutes west from Terlingua will take you to Lajitas for more upscale dining options, a few great shops, and the chance to meet Clay Henry, the beer drinking goat that happens to be the mayor. Big Bend Ranch State Park (the national park’s wild and rugged cousin) is right there as well. Stop in at the Barton Warnock center just before you get to Lajitas for an overview of the park, museum, and a terrific book shop. Alpine, Fort Davis, Marfa, and the McDonald Observatory are also within easy day trip range. Come on down. Enjoy the Big Bend. Do as much or as little as you like. You’ll have a memorable time and will likely start planning your return trip before you even leave. That’s great. We’ll love to have come back over and over. In fact, that’s how the owner of Crystal Mountain became the owner. He came out here so often and enjoyed staying at other Big Bend Vacation Rental properties so much that he eventually decided to acquire his own properties. He now owns Crystal Mountain One and Two and Crystal Valley, just a short drive away. He was very deliberate and considerate in incorporating all the things he enjoyed the most at other rentals, plus adding extra touches to create the ultimate Big Bend vacation home base. Now, he’s eager to share it all with you.

Enjoy picturesque views from adobe home, built during early days of Terlingua Ranch and featuring original tiles imported from Mexico. Local lore says this was home to the early road crews here and later a repair shop. Enjoy great views of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park, and the surrounding mountains and ranges, their views and color often highlighted by spectacular sunrises and sunsets while you enjoy the many activities available in the area.
We are located 2 miles from Terlingua Ranch Lodge. At the Ranch you will find internet and a laundromat available, as well as food and entertainment at the Bad Rabbit Café. A swimming pool is available during warmer months. Both Big Bend National and State Parks are well within an hour drive, as well as the historic towns of Terlingua, Lajitas, and Ghost Town.
You will be able to reach the adobe, as well as most 'typical tourist' destinations by car. However, the Terlingua Ranch area is comprised of many many miles of dirt roads, some only accessible by 4 wheel drive or a quad. Always travel with plenty of water.

    Maisie2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Surrealistisk og fantastisk opplevelse! I stedet for 5-stjerners hotell har vi hatt tusen stjerner over oss.

Sterkt anbefalt eiendom.
