Spacious (1,600 square foot) three-bedroom cottage suited for families or couples, located 35 minutes west of Sudbury (approximately 4.5 hours north of Toronto). Features include indoor hot tub, multiple decks, furnished gazebo, canoe, satellite tv, wireless internet, barbecue, outdoor fireplace, and a ping pong table.
In July and August, please make booking requests from Saturday to Saturday (one week, 7 night, minimum stay).
The cottage is located on Little Fairbank Lake, which is connected to Fairbank Lake, one of the larger lakes in the area. The combined waterway provides you with a large area to explore, either using the supplied canoe or a motor boat which you may bring yourself or rent nearby. A provincial park (Fairbank) is located on the larger lake and features a sandy beach and day-hiking trails. The cottage is located on a point and receives direct sunlight virtually all day long. Clear spring-fed water is great for swimming.
The main living space is an open-concept design which includes two seating areas and a modern kitchen.
Two bedrooms are located on the lower floor (one with a king- and one with a queen-sized bed), and a large loft, accessed by a spiral staircase, is located upstairs with two singles and one double bed. The loft is well-suited to kids.
Board games, a great book selection, and a DVD player with movies, are included.
Propane is provided for the barbecue and so is a small supply of firewood for the outdoor fireplace and indoor woodstove. Lifejackets (several adult, 1 youth, and 1 infant) are provided for the canoe.
The hot tub water is generally changed for every rental.
For those to whom a healthy indoor environment is important, there is no mustiness inside the cottage and dust levels are low since the interior is carpet-free and does not utilize forced-air heating. Strongly scented products are discouraged inside the cottage. The interior is also free of mice, which are both a nuisance and a health concern.
Motorboats can be rented at Fairbank Resort (located on Fairbank Lake: 705-866-2773). Boats rented here can be docked at the cottage. A boat launch is located across from the cottage ($10 launch fee) for guests bringing their own boat.
Types of fish in the lake include pike, pickerel, smallmouth bass, lake trout and whitefish.
Parking is available for up to 4 vehicles. No motorcycles, please.
Please note that guests are asked to keep noise levels low: parties, outdoor music, and music played loudly indoors, are not allowed (the sound carries across the whole lake). This is a cottage for people who like nature and quiet times rather than music and partying.
The large upstairs loft is accessed via a spiral staircase as shown in photographs. The staircase may not be suitable for very young children, the elderly, or those with mobility issues. There is also a conventional staircase to the loft, but it is outside. Please also note that there is a brick staircase from the parking area to the cottage (two sets of stairs, six steps each) that does not have a hand rail. It is possible to avoid these steps by walking down a slight hill. So the cottage may not be suitable for those who have trouble with stairs.
Please also note that power outages can occasionally occur, which is out of my control. Hydro One does their best to get our power up and running as soon as possible.
Cell phone reception on the property is so-so: some phones may not have service in all areas inside the cottage. Reception can normally be found by moving around/going outside.
As noted in the summary section, in July and August, please make booking requests from Saturday to Saturday (one week, 7 night, minimum stay). The minimum stay outside of those months is 3 nights.
Check-in and check-out times must be followed for July and August rentals (check in at 5:30 pm and check out at 10am), but may be negotiable for stays outside of those months.
Cleaning fee is $60 per rental due to cost of hot tub chemicals and time involved in changing the water for every rental, and time involved for cleaning the cottage due to its large size.
Dogs are generally allowed, but please let me know at time of booking. Sorry, no cats allowed due to my allergies.
