Some of our guests have done this and it comes highly recommended. •Clay pigeon shooting and deer stalking can also be arranged. Sailing •Lochcarron sailing club Single Track Roads There are many miles of single track roads in the area so please follow the following guidelines to keep the ‘locals’ happy and you safe! •Stop at a passing place to let oncoming traffic pass. Who does the stopping is generally dictated by who is closest to the final passing place you approach. Don't drive past the final one in the face of an oncoming vehicle or you will be expected to reverse. •Only enter a passing place on your left. If the passing place is on your right, stop opposite it and let the oncoming vehicle enter the space. •Passing places are also there to enable traffic to overtake. Check your mirrors regularly and if there is a car behind you, please pull into the first available passing place on the left and stop to allow them to overtake. •Don’t park in passing spaces. •It is common practice for drivers to acknowledge each other with a small wave as you meet at a passing place to thank each other for the courtesy shown. •The roads are usually quiet and the scenery is always breathtaking, so relax and enjoy the drive, you’re on holiday! Shopping •The nearest bank is in Kyle of Lochalsh - although the Spar and Hotel in Lochcarron both offer 'cashback' with purchases. •Patterns of Light in Kishorn sells some super gifts. •The Spar in Lochcarron sells most of the daily essentials along with logs, coal, fishing tackle and a surprisingly well stocked hardware section upstairs. •The petrol station at Lochcarron Garage in the east end of the village sells a good range of food, milk and bread. •Tesco, Inverness (69 miles) is the nearest superstore. Sport •Watch the traditional Highland sport of shinty played in Lochcarron most Saturdays. Taxis •Unfortunately, there is currently no taxi service in the local area. Trains •An exceptionally scenic train line connects Strathcarron to Inverness or Kyle of Lochalsh. Walking •There are an almost unlimited number of walks in the area. In Achintraid itself you can walk left (west) from the road in front of Craigellachie House to the road end and then onto the forestry track where there is a pretty view of Plockton and Skye at the end of the track (approx. 2 hours return). Alternatively, walk right 100m from the road by the Chalet and follow the signs for the hill paths above Achintraid. •A selection of walking books and maps will be provided in the chalet for your use. •There are several walking websites but Walkhighlands is one of the best and has many informative walks plus maps. Wildlife •Dolphins and porpoises can often be spotted in Loch Carron, and the seas between Kishorn and Skye. •Otters and seals are regularly spotted anywhere in Loch Kishorn. Any time of day is good for otter-spotting but it is easiest when the loch is calm, they have even been seen walking on the road in front of the Chalet. •Golden Eagles can be seen almost anywhere in the area but the glen between Lochcarron and Kishorn is a good bet. •Pine Marten frequent the whole area but can be tricky to spot although they do sometimes come into the garden. •Sea eagles (white tailed eagles) nest on Shieldaig Island and also in the cliffs around Portree and there is a cctv feed of the nest site at the Aros Centre just south of Portree. •There are red deer everywhere and they often come into the garden!

Achintraid, Skottland, Storbritannia

Bright and airy bedroom, private bathroom with deep luxury bath in a modern house designed to maximise the stunning view of the sea and the surrounding mountains. An extensive breakfast selection, including home made and local produce. The house is situated in the village of Stromeferry, a short drive from bridge to the Isle of Skye and also from the NC500 Route.
A unique contemporary property with outstanding views. The house is situated in a tiny village with good transport links. Stromeferry is an ideal base for exploring both the Isle of Skye and this part of the Scottish Highlands. We are sited in a good place for those following 'northcoast500' - especially if an extra day for exploring the Isle of Skye is on the agenda. The seashore is a few minutes walk away. Woodland walks nearby and lots of wildlife on the doorstep. We are regularly seeing a seal popping up and down in the water, also dolphins infrequently visit the loch and their movement is clearly visible from the house. There are boat trips in the area and we will happily recommend something to suit your plans. Breakfast offers a chance to try some Highland cheeses, the freshest of eggs from our own hens, home-made bread and jams as well as a selection of fruits and cereal.
Stromeferry is all about the view. The village is small (15 houses), quiet and easy to drive to. It is an ideal base for exploring both the Isle of Skye, Lochalsh, the Applecross Peninsula and Torridon areas.

My place is close to nowhere. The idea is to escape! There are pubs , restaurant and shops in Plockton if that is what you seek.. You’ll love my place because of the views, the escape, and the chance to experience something different on a budget.. The Pent Hoose is good for couples and solo adventurers, but it will only accommodate 2 people. There is NO electricity and you will need to bring sleeping bags and a torch. Please read all the details before you book! Check in 4 - 6 pm!!
This is a WOODEN TENT. Instead of sleeping on the ground under canvas we give you a covered mattress on to which you can put your sleeping bags. The "hoose" is in a field on a farm which has sheep, goats, llamas, racoons, ducks, hens, rabbits, owls and a donkey. They roam freely around the farm and you will see them on your way to the penthouse or evidence that they have been there! You can get food near our white painted house with which to feed them and can come in to the Racoon pen and feed them with one of us.
They published the local crime statistics a few years ago and 54 crimes had been committed, 53 of them by the same man "drunk and disorderly" and one by a confused dementia patient who walked off with an umbrella! It is a quiet, peaceful location which we enjoy. We could "update" our lodges and camping facilities but we fear it would attract a different clientele which we would rather avoid. Our best guests have been coming for over 30 years to enjoy the walking, sailing, climbing and just relaxation they get from this lovely area. We have had people marry on the beach and their offspring got engaged to other guests offspring that they met whilst on holiday as children. A home from home for so many people who are now classed more as friends than guests and we would not want to change this. Thus if you would class your self as "fussy" or "particular" or have not gone camping under canvas before, think twice about what you book as this may not be for you. There is no electricity in the "hoose" and the toilet is a walk away, you may encounter sheep (or the tell tale signs that one has been there!) on your way and this, whilst normal for wild campers, may not appeal to everyone.

The Kishorn Kabin is cosy, tranquil & set in wildlife friendly woodland garden. Our guests say it's a "home from home". Equipped with gas central heating, a wood burning stove and kitchen. You will have your own parking & storage (inc. bikes) area. A perfect place to explore the west highlands, Skye or stop off on the north coast 500. Your Host is from the Highlands & loves sharing her knowledge with you. We are conveniently located opposite the famous Kishorn Seafood Bar Restaurant.
The kishorn kabin is ideally suited for two adults sharing. There is one double bed as well as sofa bed, which can accommodate one extra. The Kabin is open - planned, with the bedroom, living and kitchen area all in one space. There is a showeroom and an outdoor awning area to relax in, store equipment and dry clothes. As there is a woodburning stove it's not suitable for toddlers. A Cot Bed is available for babies.
We really are spoilt were we live. Only a 5 min walk from the breathtaking views of the Applecross Mountains and 1.5 miles from the Kishorn Bay beach. The Bealach na Ba ("Pass of the Cattle") - the historic road to Applecross is 2 miles down the road. Directly opposite we have the famous Kishorn Seafood Bar. So you can wine & dine and walk back across to the Kishorn Kabin. It's best to book ahead for evening meals ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). Amazing coffee's & light lunches can be had at The Bealach Café & Gallery - 2 miles away. Their Gallery is well worth a look - lots of inspiring local artists work can be purchased. There are simply too many great walks to mention here - but we will leave you a wee notebook with our local "treasures" and some maps to borrow. The local wildlife is abundant; there is a good chance of spotting the "Big 5" - Seals, Otters, Red Squirrel, Deer & Eagles in Wester Ross. Shieldaig (11 miles away) is one of our favourite villages to visit. A picturesque place where the local hotel (Tigh na Eilean) cooks great wood fired pizzas. Local artist Vicky Stonebridge offers pottery classes at her studio, originally a Blacksmiths in Lochcarron. Email (EMAIL HIDDEN) to book in advance.

Set on our 17 acre holding on the shores of Lochcarron, near the pretty village of Plockton our cottages sit on our private beach which has a coral strand over which you can walk at low tides to get to the Heron sanctuary island. We keep racoons, llamas, donkeys, goats, sheep, hens, ducks, owls etc and have otters on the beach and many birds to watch and photograph. Perfect place to relax. A pine marten often comes to the window in the evenings for treats. Large part sleeps 4 + 2, small part 2.
If you let us know time of arrival we will meet you and show you in to our cottage which is electrically heated as well as having a wood burning stove, The heaters will be on when you arrive. The local village is two miles away and has great food in two pubs, a restaurant and a takeaway. Walking around the farm with a bag of food, you can feed the animals and, on the beach, watch out for otters, herons and other shore birds. A pine marten may visit your cottage in the evenings for treats. We have a video of pine marten feeding on the back window sill of this cottage taken recently by a guest.
Our farm has one of the most stunning views we know. There is an island which is a heron sanctuary, a coral strand and a grassy beach in front of the cottage. The railway line which runs from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh three times a days just beside the cottage and you have to cross over the line to get to it. The other side of the loch looks so close and the Applecross hill are behind them with the pass of the cattle, the Beallach, being the highest paved road in Britain winding up the hill. The pub there does fantastic food all day and keeps winning the 'best pub in Britain' awards. Great food can also be found in Plockton, 2 miles away, in two pubs and a takeaway and a lovely seafood restaurant. Kyle has both and Indian and Chinese takeaway.

Vil absolutt anbefale.

This is a wooden TENT in a field on a Rare Breeds farm. A llama may greet you or indeed join in a camp fire! The glamping hut has two bed platforms on which you can roll out a sleeping bag. The toilet is a few minutes walk away, there is NO shower, there is a communal area with kettle, microwave, toaster and 'fridge. Heat a micro meal or pot noodle here. Please read the full description prior to booking in cold weather, NO HEATING or ELECTRICITY in hut. You must arrive before dark.
They roam freely around the farm and you may be visited by a sheep or a llama whilst you enjoy a camp fire and you may also find traces of said animals on the way to or from the penthouse! You can get food near our white painted house with which to feed them and can come in to the Racoon pen and feed them with one of us.
Patti’s home is located in Plockton, United Kingdom They published the local crime statistics a few years ago and 54 crimes had been committed, 53 of them by the same man "drunk and disorderly" and one by a confused dementia patient who walked off with an umbrella! We have had people marry on the beach and their offspring got engaged to other guests' offspring that they met whilst on holiday as children.

'The Sea View Apartment' is situated within the idyllic village of Plockton on the sheltered shores of Loch Carron. Located just 10 miles from the Isle of Skye bridge, the flat is well placed to explore all of what the West Highlands has to offer. You'll find the flat after making your way through the premises of a cafe/deli onto the private staircase and new home from home over the coming days. Please note our deli is seasonal and closed to trade during the winter months.
'The Flat Above' is part of and extends from one of Plocktons oldest buildings - a 19th century cow shed. Upon entering and ascending the short well lit staircase, you'll find an open plan kitchen, living room and dining area facing the rear garden. The double and twin bedroom rooms are well equipped with freshly laundered towels, linen and beautifully exposed original stone walls with picturesque views onto Loch Carron and the surrounding hills. Throughout the apartment, you'll experience a light and relaxing environment suitable for couples, friends and small families a like...
  • Utrolig sted.

This traditional, stone built, herring fisherman's cottage dates back to the 1700s. Whilst preserving its' original features it has been modernised in order to capitalise on its idyllic setting. Set on the shore, pine martens come to the window, otters can be seen swimming in the loch and many different species of birds spotted. Walk over the coral strand to the heronry on the island at low tides. You park at the bottom of the track and walk 60 yds to the beach, crossing the single track railway line and leave the world behind as you relax in this tranquil setting. All you need is the wine and the weather.
We are in a perfect location to explore the Isle of Skye as he bridge is only 10 minutes drive away. Pretty Plockton is 3 miles away and has excellent food venues. Applecross is an hour away over the highest paved road in Britain and the pub there wins awards for its food. However, our scenery is second to none so you can just sit and relax between mountain, meadow and loch.

A lovely simple, basic lodge on the shores of Lochcarron and near the pretty village of Plockton knows as the "Jewel of the Highlands". There is a balcony which opens in to a living room/kitchen, a double bedroom and bathroom. A pine marten often visits the balcony for treats in the evenings. There are terrific views over the loch and it is a couple of minutes walk from the shore and the heron sanctuary on the island which is accessed at low tides over a coral strand. Note simple NOT luxury.
Balcony opens into a living room kitchen. There is a bathroom and one double bedroom. Parking next to cabin with terrific views over the loch. Binoculars are provided to help you spot pine martens, otters, seals or even the passing badger. It should also be noted that this is a farm and we keep animals, including hens and some times the hens visit the balcony, especially if guests have been feeding them. The side effect is that these lovely rare Sicilian Buttercups do leave a "calling card" so we discourage you from feeding them as the next guest may not be so happy about the mess!!
