One of the 10 most beautiful villages in Italy- according to the Huffington Post- Sorano is an exceptionally well preserved medieval hill town in the Alta Maremma area of Tuscany.

The location of Sorano is ideal. Equidistant from Rome and Florence. 45 minutes from Orvieto to the East, and 45 minutes from Orbetello and the beautiful Costa d'Argento of the Mediterranean to the West. 75 minutes to Siena. 25 Minutes to the lovely Lake Bolsena. Described by a guest as a "nid douillet"- a cosy nest-, the "Swift's View" apartment is located in the historic center of the town, and affords wonderful views down to the valley of the Lente river over terra cotta roof tops. The name of the apartment is inspired by the ethereal birds that nest in the volcanic tufa stone walls of the town. Wifi is available and parking is a short walk away. The apartment is 40 sq. meters or 430 sq. ft. and is on 2 levels. The main floor is the living area and kitchen, with a large 14th century fireplace and a pull out couch that could sleep an additional 2 people. The lower floor, accessed by three steps, contains the bedroom and bathroom. The bed was built into a lovely 13th century nook, that most people find quite charming. The bed is slightly irregular, but is essentially a double size- 155cm x 195cm/ 61in x 78in. Both the head and the foot of the bed are walls, so if a guest is taller than 190 cm. or 6' 4" one might feel somewhat constrained. At the top of the bed, there is also a 24cm/ 9in square of wall that slightly protrudes into the bed area. The woolen sprung mattress was custom made. There is, also, a comfortable queen sized pull-out couch in the main living room. The owner/host lives in the adjacent 3 bedroom house, which is also available to rent by special request. Both places were renovated as period homes with great attention to detail by the owner, and are furnished with lovely antiques. The cul-de-sac, where the apartment is located, can be used to eat al fresco- and the opposite cantina is usually open for an excellent glass of homemade wine. From May, 2015 I have listed another apartment- Casa Bianca in Tuscany- which is directly opposite this property. The two apartments, if available, can be rented together, and a special rate can be arranged.

I'm pretty easy- and I usually will be your next-door neighbor, as my home is adjacent to the rental apartment. Sorano is a very quiet place, so as long as you respect the peaceful atmosphere, all will be well.

It is hard to find the right words to describe Chris' place in Sorano. Staying there felt like going back in time. His small apartment lies in the middle of the old town on the hillside, surrounded by the sound of silence and the smell of flowers. Chris provided us with fruit from his garden, bread and home made wine and jam. He also provided us with tons of great advices on what to do during our stay, and also the basics on how to make wine. This is truly a home away from home and we highly recommend a stay at Chris' place.

The apartment is so cute and cozy. What a great enchanted medieval experience. We had the privilege to receive a welcoming gift of Chris' delicious homemade jam, bread and excellent wine ( his last batches!) Chris had great restaurant, winery and activities ( some only locals know about) recommendations. He was always available to answer questions and very accessible ( he lives next door). Sorano is such a special place... away from the big tourist crowds. I highly recommend this enchanting town experience at Chris' apartment. We hope to be back soon.

Chris' place in this impossibly picturesque Tuscan hill town was simply gorgeous. To some, the interior might appear austere, but we loved the integrity and authenticity of everything, both functional and decorative. No surprise that Chris is an artist: my wife described the house as 'like walking into a Van Gough painting". And you wake up to a view you will remember for all time. Chris welcomed us with wine, bread and jam all home made by himself and delicious to boot. He is a mine of useful tips about about where to go and what to see, where to eat and so on. We loved it all. Just one word of warning. This place is great and great value too. It is not a five star hotel in Como, however, so if you have no sense of romance or history, no appreciation of the quaint and the quirky, then Chris' place in Sorano is not for you. You are a sad Philistine and I pity you -a matter of no concern to either of us as I doubt we will ever meet.

Really cannot recommende staying in Sorano high enough! Chris is amazing - despite the fact that he would not allow me to buy his homegrown wine - but insisted on giving it away for free ;) We were greated with homemade bread, jam and wine on arrival and Chris was great at sharing his knowledge on Sorano and local areas... Appartment is small and its not the worlds longest bed (as others have also mentioned) - but the view is smiply amazing! (I am 1.84 and had no problems)

We feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to stay with Chris in Sorano! First of all, Sorano is a startlingly brilliant and beautiful little town. We would have loved to stay longer and really settle in for a while. Sorano is perfectly located between the lake and the ocean, making it a great home base for exploring Tuscany. The apartment itself is also absolutely perfect- you really need to experience it yourself. The sunrise views out the windows every morning were outstanding. The interior was sincere and charming. The bed and the pull out sofa were both extremely comfortable. Even during the hottest month of the year, the evening temperatures dropped to a very comfortable, cool sleeping temperature and it was nice to be able to sleep with the windows open. The interior of the home naturally stays cool throughout the daytime as well. Last but not least, Chris is an amazing and very engaging host. Aside from being a talented artist and great company, he is extremely knowledgeable about Sorano and has so many suggestions for exploring Tuscany. We will definitely be returning for a longer stay!
