Head north in Norway and experience our tiny-hotel on a remote island. The Arctic Hideaway is an architecturally playful and stunning collection of ten individual buildings, where fours are sleeping cabins. The shared areas are the iconic Tower House, kitchen house, studio building, bathhouse, crab shack and sauna. In limited periods, we will offer single cabins for rent on Airbnb. Included in the stay is breakfast and use of the sauna, that we will fire up once a day for every guest to enjoy.

Stedet
The Arctic Hideaway is an experience like few others. Our space is as much as a mindset as it is a physical location — a place to unplug and unwind. It is a place that will give you visual tranquillity. It is truly a transformative experience staying here. We have a minimum 2-night stay as we believe this will provide you with the best experience at our unique place. And most of our guest wish they could stay longer, so maybe book a week?

The Arctic Hideaway is nestled into Sørværet of the Fleinvær islands; these cabins provide guests with beautiful views of the Norwegian sea, nearby islands, birds, seals, sunrises and sunsets, the northern lights, the midnight sun and so much more. The architecture is designed to push you out into nature, which means that you move between the cabins for bathroom and kitchen usage. Look at the map for the location of your cabin in regards to the other buildings.

THE CALENDAR IS NOT OPEN ON THE DATES YOU WANT TO STAY
The whole compound can sleep up to 10 guests. And it is an ideal location for retreats and workshop, or maybe you want to rent the entire Hideaway by yourself? At this moment we have availability during jan-may here on Airbnb with four sleeping cabins with space for two people in each. If you are interested in visiting us at another time or arrange an event, please do send us an email and we will do our best to help you coordinate and epic experience at our facility.

Gjestetilgang
LOWER TALL small double
This cabin is located down by the ocean. The Lower Tall cabin will be your private space during your stay. Here it is one small double bed and one writing desk, with enough room for storage for your luggage.

You will be able to share the Tower house, kitchen, studio, bath house, crab shack and sauna with the rest of the guest staying at the other three cabins available to rent. All the sleeping quarters have room for suitcases or bags, and there is a passageway that is shielded from the weather and wind for outer clothing. None of the houses has curtains.

We do not charge any cleaning fee nor deposit.

Andre ting det er verdt å merke seg
BACK TO BASICS
Nature is raw and beautiful, and facilities are basic as they are on a remote island. There are a few things that need to be taken into consideration by all guests who stay at the Hideaway. A water plant creates fresh drinkable water out of sea water, but it is not the unlimited resource you are used to in daily life. This must be kept in mind; therefore, when showering, washing dishes, toothbrushing, and so on. The trash is shipped off the island in bags. Guests are asked to be respectful of this policy and sort their trash, dispose of organics. This makes it possible for the facility to run much more smoothly. And if possible, take back whatever they brought onto the island.

FOOD AND DRINK
The island is remote, and one great quality is that there are no supermarkets and shops at all. The caretaker will facilitate a great start to the day, with a continental breakfast which included in your booking fee and you will all eat together around the long dining table.

We have an open pantry which offers ingredients to make light lunches and a variation of dinners. You will be making your own food, as this is a social setting, and we urge the guest to make food together (and tidy up). Our caretakers will contact you before arrival to enquire about any special needs.

An additional fee of 450 NOK per day per person will be added to the booking to cover the food you will need. This will give you dinner, and access to the pantry to make yourself tea and coffee and light lunch. Drinks like water, juice, coffee and tea. But not any alcohol. We sell alcohol, snack and a few other items at the Hideaway. But if you have any favourite food or snack, we urge you to bring your favourites with you.

The reason why this is extra is that some guest will leave early, other late depending on when the ferry leaves. So we believe that you shall not need to pay any extra for food you will not eat.

Beliggenhet

Gildeskål, Nordland, Norge

It is said that only one person lives on the island, and any given day, this could be true. On the other hand, the island has several part-time or seasonal inhabitants who call the island home. That being said, there are no cafes on the island (except for Saturday Waffles at the public house), there are no supermarkets, nor are there bars or discos. There is no television or radio. Nature, instead, provides the only distraction. And, as you will see upon your arrival, in a place as remote as this, it can be quite the distraction!

If you want, we can lead you into a state of total relaxation. Tours can be made to neighbouring islands, fishing tours, bird watching, shell picking, rock climbing, even hiking to the most beautiful mountain top (990 m) in the area. We must know about your wishes as soon as possible to provide you with options, prices and reservations for any activities. But bringing a camera and a good book will also be a great option.

To sum it all up: Here on the island, there are no shops and no cars. Here there is no stress and no dangerous animals.

There are two caretakers who lives among the cabins and shares the space with the guests. The caretaker is necessary for keeping The Arctic Hideaway running smoothly as offering accommodation for guests on a sparsely inhabited island is no small feat. The caretaker will keep everything running as smoothly as possible on the Northern Norwegian Sea. They may be sociable with those guests who would like to hear stories about the local culture, the concepts behind the Hideaway, and more.
