Apartment on the ground floor of a 300 year old, Grade 2 listed Lakeland barn. Quiet location, off street parking by the door, mountain views. New kitchen and wet room, underfloor & central heating, wood burning stove. One bedroom with kingsize bed.

Stedet

This is a quirky, c.300 year old building and is part of a group of buildings on the Ambleside Heritage Trail that are the oldest in the town. The site was the first to be settled in what is now Ambleside, over 1,000 years ago. It is constructed of Lakeland stone and is Grade 2 Listed. The walls are 2 feet thick and the interior contains ships timbers salvaged from the Cumbrian coast. The kitchen and wet room are new and contemporary, yet blend with the old world feel of the apartment. There is always plenty of hot water to relax in the shower after a day on the fells and the wood burning stove provides a cosy focal point in the evenings.

Tilgang for gjester

Free on site private parking right at the door, with secure bicycle storage in our stone outbuilding if required. Free wood for the stove, gas central heating, underfloor heating to wet room & kitchen, shaver point, library of maps guidebooks & local tourist information, board games, tv, dvd player, free Wi-Fi, electric ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave oven, Bosch dishwasher, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, hair dryer, cool mat for hair straighteners.

Andre ting å merke seg

We will show you how best to light and use the wood burning stove. We also provide a booklet of useful local information including doctor, dentist, hospital, etc. If you would like to use the washing machine and the dryer in the lobby of our entrance, we will need to make a charge of £5 per load. Comfy, cozy, cottage in great location with good parking. All as described. Comfy bed and arm chairs (really important for me) and well equipped kitchen. We appreciated all the local OS maps and walking guide books. The log burner worked well with clear instructions from Robin. This was our first time in the Lakes and Ambleside is very central to lots of attractions and walks for all abilities. The town is just a short stroll away with shops/cafes etc. Robin is available with lots of local information but not intrusive.Would highly reccomend

What a wonderful week we had at Robin's barn. Ambleside is the perfect location for visiting the lakes, and the barn is in the perfect location in Ambleside. Everything as described, and Robin was a welcoming but not an intrusive host. Highly recommended.

It was our first visit to the Lake District and in choosing How Head Barn we chose the right accommodation. The location was perfect and Robin was an excellent host. He welcomed with a cup of tea on arrival after a long road and was full of information and suggestions about the Lakes. We hope to return again sometime soon.

This is a home from home. A real Lake District experience in a cosy cottage. Our host was on hand for any advice or guidance as he is part of the Ambleside Community with excellent local knowledge. Just a 3 min walk into the town but a quiet location with off street parking which is a bonus in Ambleside. Kitchen is well equipped with microwave and dishwasher. Log burner added to cosiness at night. No washing machine but laundrette in town. Good shower with wet room set up. Underfloor heating in kitchen and bathroom Numerous pubs and restaurants within walking distance. The Golden Rule at the end of the road is great local drinking hole. Good coffee shops in the town. Great access for walks up to the fells without driving. Can walk to Grassmere via low level flat walk or over Loughrigg Fell for a great day out. Overall an excellent experience of Lakeland life!

How Head is an idyllic little place, perfect for couples as a base to explore the Lakes. A stones throw from the lively Ambleside town centre yet peacefully hidden up the hill. The cottage is perfect, modern kitchen and bathroom with a perfect log burning fire for chilly evenings. I highly recommend a stay here! Robin is a friendly and attentive host who takes pride in his residences. He provided us with great recommendations for dining and adventure.

I moved to The Lake District National Park in early 2014 after living and working in London for the last 30 years. I have two grown up children and I love living in 'The Lakes'. I am a fell walker and general outdoor enthusiast and love helping people explore this most beautiful and spectacular part of the UK. I really enjoy advising on the best route, circular walks, ridge walks, scrambling, driving tours, wild swimming, wild camping, mountain biking areas and trails, where to watch wildlife, National Trust properties, history, live music and the use of the various lake ferries to incorporate into your days out.
I am passionate about preserving and protecting wild places and wildlife. I'm also interested in live music and try to spend a couple of weeks each year working at music festivals.
