THE IDEAL ITINERARY
DAY ONE. Your adventure begins as you venture off the freeway. Why not stop for lunch on the Hawkesbury River, at the Angler's Restaurant, or Saddles (bookings essential) at Mount White. Then as you travel along Tourist Drive 33 pick up some locally grown produce from farm stalls offering in season veggies, fruit, macadamia nuts, olives, bush honey and free-range eggs. Prepare yourself to slow down, both figuratively and literally, the dirt track to our privately owned lookout is a tad bumpy. Now arriving on a hidden ridge top, you’ll be immersed in pristine bushland and you’ll be overlooking UNESCO World Heritage Yengo National Park.

Rest assured we’ll have all the gear ready, there’s no set up and unlike other glamping sites you won’t be sharing. Just unpack yourself and flop on the Pavilion lounge and your nature break starts with the practise of being still for a spot of wildlife watching. Then when hunger hits you’ll be able to prepare a meal over an open camp fire, or in summer the BBQ. As the sunset fades to dark skies the stars will be brilliant as you’ll find there isn’t a speck of light pollution and even if it is cloudy just turn on the ceiling fairy lights and hey presto you’ll have your own stars.

DAY TWO. You have two options for brekkie, you could prepare a cookup breakfast, everything always tastes better on an open fire. Or you could head for the Hunter Valley, first stop, Laguna’s GNTP, for a gourmet feast & cafe coffee, don’t leave without checking out their very Instagramable loo. Day trip options obviously include the Hunter Valley or Wollombi Valley, but why not take the road less travelled & explore the historical village of St Albans with a pub lunch at The Settlers Arms Inn. If you have a 4WD a highlight will surely be the Finchley Aboriginal rock engravings where visitors will find it easy to imagine what it was like here before European Invasion. If you are keen go barefoot, as this both aids in the preservation of these fragile engravings and you’ll feel more connected to country. Go on try it.

Don’t feel like going anywhere, then don’t! At your own lookout we guarantee your total seclusion to escape and reconnect in nature. Hot enough? Swim in our big dam. It holds enough water to fill two olympic sized swimming pools. So bring your swimmers. We have towels. Or without moving an inch enjoy the spectacular view of Mount Yengo which is, according to Darkinjung mythology, the place where Baiame, jumped up to the spirit world after he created all of the mountains, lakes, rivers & caves. This place is of great spiritual and ceremonial importance to the Darkinjung and surrounding nations.

If you’ve booked a second night, and we have discounted it so you can, because unplugging takes time, be bold try a bush shower under a gum tree. The surrounding wilderness are the only walls you’ll need. And don’t forget first time glampers may be reassured you have access to an indoor bathroom for a warm shower and a flushing toilet 24/7. We also guarantee that a cozy cabin is always available for hiding in, in the event of extreme weather.

DAY THREE. Pancakes? Go on, all the best mornings start with pancakes on an open fire. Bring your preferred toppings. Then as you prepare to head home we hope that you take something more than dirty clothes back to the city. We hope you take a small slice of the peace that we have found living here. We hope you reconnect with each other. And reflect on the importance of nature in your life. Because it is in the wild places, where the edge of the earth meets the corners of the sky, the human spirit is fed.

Gjestetilgang
The lookout is all yours. No one will bother you after you close the gate and drive on up to the lookout with it's own safari tent, pavilion dining and lounge, outdoor shower and toilet.

You also have the exclusive use of a private bathroom in the main homestead and a cozy cabin should the weather prevent you from enjoying tent life.

Andre ting det er verdt å merke seg

BUSHFIRE

You will receive a refund or rescheduled dates. Your choice! During this period please do not leave people on the property without transportation. We also recommend that you download the RFS’s app called FIRES NEAR ME which will keep you informed about any fire activity and has local alerts.

TOTAL FIRE BAN DAYS
During a Total Fire Ban day no cooking is allowed at the lookout but guests may use BBQ facilities next to the main house.

HAVING A FIRE
During the bushfire season no outdoor fires are allowed in the fire pit. Fires at other times are at the direction and discretion of the owner. The Pavilion’s wood stove can be used year round except on days of TOTAL FIRE BAN! Please do not use oil, wet or green wood in the wood stove. You are free to bring your own wood, or we can supply you with a bag at cost or you can cut and collect your own wood, there’s ample in the area if you don’t mind doing some work (saw and hand axe provided, use at own risk).

HIGH WINDS
Due to the exposed location of the lookout and number of trees we recommend sleeping in the cabin during periods of high winds.

CHILDREN
Unfortunately we are unable to accomodate children on the property due to restrictions by our insurance policy.

NO SMOKING
There is to be no smoking at the lookout. However smokers may smoke in their car if they do not discard ash or cigarettes in the bush.

Bucketty, New South Wales, Australia

Wombat Ridge is a very special place to live and only an hour and a half from the centre of Sydney. Being surrounded by bush on all sides you might think there’s nothing to do, however there is scope for many activities.

BUSH WALKS
There are a variety of bush walks in the World Heritage Yengo National Park (40 min) & Olney State Forest (2 min), please check out the park's websites for lengths and difficulty of the local walks.

CONVICT TRAIL
Drive north along the Great North Road you will be travelling back into Australia’s colonial history. Bucketty is the best location to begin exploring the convict-built road which traverses sandstone gorges, razorback ridges and towering passes. Along the road you can still find original stone retaining walls and stone cut drains. Arriving in Wollombi you’ll find a small township full of sandstone buildings from the 1800s, including a courthouse, cemetery, churches, a school, several inns and two general stores. You can enjoy lunch at Myrtle Cafe or dinner at Wollombi Tavern’s bistro and try the infamous Dr. Jurd’s Jungle Juice. (30 min)

VINEYARDS
An hour north is the Hunter Valley which is one of Australia's premier wine regions. It is home to numerous wineries, including world-renowned brands and family-run boutiques. Most offer cellar door wine tastings and vineyard tours. (60 min)

CONCERTS
Many estate frequently host world-class concerts. See hunter valley visitor centre for upcoming concerts.

ST ALBANS
Travel towards Wisemans Ferry down the Great North Road and you will drive down a spectacular gorge. Please take care to slow down on bends and we would not advise taking this road in wet conditions. At St Albans you will find the Settlers Arms, a country pub with the best rhubarb pie. (60 min)

HORSE RIDING & QUAD BIKING
Glenworth Valley is one of Australia’s largest outdoor activities centres and you can enjoy horse riding, kayaking, abseiling and quad biking. It has a range of tours for riders of all skill levels, including beginners. (25 min)

WILDLIFE PARKS
We are not far from the Australian Reptile Park at Somersby (30 min) and the Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park at Calga (30 min). Both are wonderful places for kids and overseas travellers to see all kinds of Australian wildlife. Alternatively you can sit on the deck and wait for them to pass by.

TREETOP ADVENTURE PARK

We moved to Bucketty for a bush change. Where's Bucketty?... Exactly! We love living surrounded by the bush and all its inhabitants. We love the smells, the absolute peace, although it's not always quiet (thanks to the countless birds, frogs, hopping of wallabies and night-time digging of our wombat). The move has truly changed our lives for the better. We hope you'll come and experience it too.
