Characterful terraced house, over one hundred years old, on top of a steep hill overlooking the cathedral and castle. 10-15 min walking distance to city centre, bus and railway stations, 5 min walk to supermarket. Free, but limited, on-street parking.
This is a unique place. It is very quiet, because we are surrounded by gardens, the school playing field and the woods (the local nature reserve). We have seen deer, foxes, badgers and woodpeckers, but we are actually within Durham City!!

Stedet
This is a beautiful old terraced cottage, built over one hundred years ago for workers on the steam railway. It comfortably sleeps 4, but there is a double mattress under the double bed which can be pulled out if you need more sleeping space, and the sofa downstairs is also long enough to sleep on should the need arise! We have done everything we can to make the house both characterful and cosy. The main bedroom has views over Durham towards the cathedral (which you can see if the trees aren't in leaf).
Please don't come if you want everything to be brand new and modern, do come if you like having lots of old books around you, a comfy bed, a peaceful place to relax or work, and beautiful gardens around you. There is even a piano if you want to play and a stash of old National Geographic magazines if you like that sort of thing! There is also a board games cupboard and a few toys and DVDs for young children. We live two doors down with our 3 children, if you need anything else.

Gjestetilgang
The whole house, the little seating area outside. You can even come and sit by our pond if you want to relax or work there. Disabled or elderly guests can use the chair lift and there is a ramp in the back yard for those with wheelchairs or pushchairs. The downstairs floor is made of slate which makes it easier to use a wheelchair.

Andre ting det er verdt å merke seg
We live at the top of a very steep hill (so steep you can only drive up it, not down!) It takes about 10 min to walk down it into town, to the railway station or the bus station. Or you can walk about 5 min to get to the nearest mini-supermarket. If you don't like hills or can't walk up them, you can use your car... there is free on-road parking and you can usually find a space within 100 metres of the house, on Redhills Lane (please don't park on Grays Terrace itself). INTERNET CONNECTION HAS RECENTLY BEEN UPDATED, SO PLEASE IGNORE PREVIOUS COMMENTS ABOUT WI FI SIGNAL BEING WEAK.

This is a unique place. It is very quiet, because we are surrounded by gardens, the churchyard, the school playing field and the woods (the local nature reserve). You can sometimes see deer and foxes on the playing field,, and we once almost bumped into a badger running past the door of the house! But at the same time we are actually in Durham City, and have views over the city and towards the cathedral and castle.

I have a PhD in Anthropology and currently teach the violin and look after our three children. My husband Phil studied Physics at Durham and works as an audiologist for the NHS. We enjoy gardening, films, music and walks. Phil likes to go mountain climbing when he gets a chance. I like to play quartets with friends. But most of the time we are busy with the kids these days.
