We are happy to share our knowledge of the area and our farming experiences, as well as our home, with our guests. Depending on the season there is lots to see on the farm, although, sorry but we can't make any guarantees.
Lambing time April / May - feed a lamb or if you are lucky, see one born.
Clipping time August - see the sheep being sheared.
Hay time July / August - we still make small bale hay, the scent is heavenly.
All year round the sheep need gathering in - see them being gathered on the fell or driven along the road by farmer & dog.
Ask us about the field barns, the miles & miles of dry stone walling, the Swaledale sheep, the landscape, our way of life - we are always glad to help.
The meadows & pastureland surrounding the Shepherds Hut are home to dozens of ground nesting birds; Lapwing, Curlew, Redshank, Oyster Catchers, Skylark to name but a few. The Shepherd's Hut makes an ideal 'hide' to observe the birds particularly late afternoon & early evening when they come looking for food.

Being married to a farmer means Chris & I have little spare time however we both have our hobbies; Chris has two vintage tractors and I make proddy rugs and other articles using the traditional proddy & hooky methods.

Please note that bedding is supplied but not personal towels. Please ask for single person discount.
During your stay we would like to guarentee 100% peace & quiet which comes in abundance at no extra charge! However we are a working hill farm where sheep bleat, dogs bark and tractors brum! Our farming and our livestock come first and we make no excuse for that therefore at some times of year there will be farm noises.
- The fence around the Shepherd's Hut is to keep the sheep out not the guests in! Guests are asked to stay to edge of the meadow field when the grass is growing for hay.

Farmer's wife, B&B host, holiday cottage proprietor and proud owner of a cute-as-could-be Shepherd's Hut. Farming is a 24/7 lifestyle meaning we don't get away very often so by sharing my Shepherd's Hut and welcoming B&B guests into our home, the world comes to us. I write a blog so that we can share with others what's happening on the farm and what is going on around us in this beautiful landscape of Upper Swaledale. I love the untamed ruggedness and wide open spaces surrounding where I live. Its vast and its peaceful but its teaming with life; birds, insects, tiny mammals, wild flowers, wind & weather. Come and experience it for yourself even if its only for a short time - you will love it too.
