Hi Rowena, I'm sorry that you are grumpy with us and with the way we've had to have some house rules. In the past we have had some bad experiences with sharing our house with some travellers so we made some rules up so that hopefully people understand what's expected of them as a guest. We are embarrassed about having to have the rules and we wanted to explain why we have them so that people understand why? Other guests sympathise with us and after reading about the issues we have had are understanding about the rules. I'm sure you'll agree, the rules are just common courtesy things that most people do anyway. Since we listed the rules we have not had any problems.
And we are sorry that you were unhappy with the free upgrade. We sometimes upgrade people into a better house if the better house is vacant and most people really appreciate it. At the time that I organised the upgrade I didn't notice that your group was travelling without a car. Luckily my husband was able to get you a vehicle large enough for your group for a cheap price which you also used for sightseeing in the area. At that time of year its almost impossible to get a vehicle in Greymouth unless it is boked well in advance. Just to be clear, the term out of town means different things to different people so your upgrade house was a 6 minute drive from the town centre, to me that's not out of town, its well within the town.
I agree that if the house has been shut up for a day or two it can smell stuffy when you arrive. We have just installed an HRV ventilation system in the house which guests are telling us is great.
