Bra beliggenhet

My place is close to the Solway Firth on the outskirts of Annan. You’ll love it because of the the gorgeous view over to the Lake District, the serenity of the area, and the bird watching opportunities.
My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers.
Car parking space is available in the yard in front of the cabin.
Table and chairs for sitting in the garden are supplied.
The modern kitchen is fully equipped with fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave and oven/grill.

Stedet
Being so close to the sea, you’ll find yourself in a breezy environment, but don't worry. Inside the coziness of the cabin you’ll have the perfect place to watch the many bird species, who play with the wind or come to the shoreline and feed after the tide has gone out.

Gjestetilgang
Garden area is accessible for guests.

Andre ting det er verdt å merke seg
A continental breakfast with eggs, cheese, meats, jam, butter, bread, fruit, milk, tea and coffee is always provided in the fridge for the first day only. There is usually enough to last two or three days for most couples.

From our experience guests, who stay longer always bring their own food supply.
Should you have special dietary requirements it would be best, to bring your own.

A large Tesco shop is quite close and in walking distance to the cabin. The town of Annan is about 1.5 Miles down the road has a number of pubs, restaurants and shops.
Taxi Numbers are also supplied by us and frequently used by our guests, who want to go out and drink, but not drive back in the evening.

If you want to travel around there are plenty of leaflets with suggestions in the cabin.

Beliggenhet

Annan, Skottland, Storbritannia

The Solway Firth has been a natural barrier against invaders during historical wars, and a hindrance to commerce in peaceful times. Bowness Wath, the ford, linking Annan and Bowness, was an important Solway crossing point for cattle drovers until 1863.

The Solway can be treacherous, with hidden channels and a tidal rise of 7 metres. In some conditions the tidal bore reaches a height of about 1 metre and travels about 6/7 knots. Therefore do not attempt to ford the estuary.

A quote from Sir Walter Scott's 'red gauntlet' written in 1824 but still true today: "He that dreams on the bed of the Solway may wake in the next world"

The Solway has been a rich source of fish for centuries. The traditional methods of fishing are with the Haaf net, and other forms of 'fixed engine' nets secured to the shore or seabed. There are three types of net used here to catch Salmon or Trout: Haaf nets, Poke nets, and Stake or Trap nets.

During the fishing season nowadays, only the Haaf nets are permitted since new legislation was put into place in 2015. The Haaf net is a single net on a large wooden frame, which is carried into the channel and held by a fisherman. It’s a very serene sight to watch indeed.
Afterwards, when the group of fishermen come back ashore, you can easily get engrossed in their banter as they change from their fishing gear to take home the 'catch of the day'.
