Barn cottage is situated up on the hill, away from the hustle and bustle of the village of Bran, but close enough to walk there in 20 minutes. From our windows we look upon the wide plains of Barsa towards Brasov and the surrounding mountains.
Barn cottage is over 100 years old, an old log cabin built by a local shepherd. We went to great lengths to preserve the original look while reinforcing the foundations and modernising the indoor space. We worked with local builders and carpenters who made all the furniture in their workshop at the bottom of the hill, in the village.
The cottage has two rooms: a living space with kitchen, dining table and seating in front of a traditional German style terracotta wood burning stove and a bedroom with its own stove and a large double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. From the entrance hall there is a shower room with wash basin and toilet. The cottage is well equipped with all mod cons, including bedding and towels, kitchen utensils, all necessary equipment to enjoy a comfortable self catering stay.
The Barn opens onto a small terrace and own meadow. This is not arranged as a formal garden but keeps in style with its surroundings, those of working farms. Our neighbour Mrs Mitza cuts the hay three times each summer and in its stead gives us fresh eggs from her hens. Until recently she has been sending her sons to cut the hay down with their scythe, but recently more and more farmers use small portable trimmers, fuelled by petrol. We do what we can to promote old customs but these are slowly dying out, alas.

The whole of the cottage will be available to guests. It is small and totally self contained, separate from the large house behind although it belongs to the same estate. The large Swiss chalet style house is also our house but we share this with our extended Romanian family who may or may not be there at the time of your visit. You will be free to visit the grounds and terrace if no one is there. However, if people are there, please do not visit uninvited.

I will not always be there during your visit. I have arranged with a local lady, Violeta, to ensure you have a key to get in, prepare the cottage for your arrival and be our housekeeper. Please do contact me for any questions about outings, shopping, restaurants. My mobile number is on the airbnb site, but here is again: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). I do (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN).

I am Romanian by birth, but I have lived and worked in the UK all my adult life. I have been an early years educator and I now, as I am retired I play with my five grandchildren when they visit, learn to paint, write my memoirs and .....learn to rediscover myself. I live with my husband of 41 years Chris, hopefully many more years to come.
Chris and I together with my extended Romanian family, built a large family holiday home on the outskirts of Bran, where we spent many holidays as we brought up our children. Recently we refurbished the barn on our land and transformed it into a comfortable cosy cottage for two.
We enjoy sharing our little Barn Cottage with guests and we trust that Airbnb travellers will look after and love our cottage as much as we do and take good care of it.
We will be in Romania some of the time this summer and welcome you to join us there.
