Dette kommer dere til å gjøre
First we visit a traditional tea leaf merchant. He will explain where Japanese tea comes from, and you will take part in a tea-tasting game that dates back 300 years. Can you guess which cup of tea comes from which selection of tea leaves? In ancient times people started gambling on their ability to guess the right tea, and the Imperial Government banned the practice. If you guess right, you'll win a prize of tea products. You'll also get inside tips on how to properly prepare your own teas at home. Then we have a brief Japanese lunch (pay separately) and move to another world: a 150-year-old, straw-floored and copper-roofed tea hermitage. You will be coached on how to follow proper guest protocol with a licenced tea ceremony master in full kimono. The tea is prepared in front on a hearth of hot coals, with the masters following ancient rules of Japanese etiquette. You will learn the guest behavior of how to hold the tea bowl, the proper way to bow, how to use the hand fan to indicate your status, and where to sit according to subtle hints in the room design.
After leading various tours in Japan for years, I now have the privilege of partnering with highly-trained tea masters to conduct full-length tea ceremonies in ancient Kyoto. The master are tea cultivators who create their own organic teas. We start by visiting a tea seller and a tea-tasting game that was so popular 300 years ago that citizens started gambling on the ability to taste each tea! Then we change venues to a 150yr old straw mat (tatami) tea house to sit for the formal tea ritual by a master in full kimono attire; explanation in fluent English. Then enjoy palate-balancing Kyoto sweets!
